Now it's real.

Since my last blog we have been issued with our tickets had another group meeting and shared lunch together. The tickets have made it all real. Prior to this the trip itself seemed so far away.

The group meeting was a great afternoon, we did some ice-breaker activities and discussed some 'need to know' things about the pilgrimage and generally got to know each other better. The rain held off long enough for us to have lunch outside. Our accommodation in Spain has finally been settled. We are very fortunate because we are staying at a University in single rooms with en suite - absolute luxury compared to what it could have been.

Today is the commissioning Mass at the Cathedral at Parramatta. The other groups all leave next week, although we don't fly out until the 10th. I'll post again before we leave to fill in the gaps between now and then.

Group meeting #1

Yesterday we had our first group meeting at the Diocesan Assembly Centre at Blacktown. It was a great opportunity for everyone to meet and get to know each other - after all, we are going to be family to each other for the three weeks we are on our pilgrimage.

At the meeting we discussed the concept of pilgrimage and Fr Suresh Kumar, our spiritual leader, outlined the itinerary and provided some important background information about some of the places we will be visiting. We then shared lunch and watched a DVD on Fatima that Annabelle had brought to show us. Following this we spent time getting to know each other and then moved into our small groups.

Our pilgrimage is called 'Viva Spain and Italy'. We leave Sydney for Spain on August 10 and spend four days staying in the Diocese of Coria-Caceres, which includes a side trip to Fatima, before heading to Madrid for the World Youth Day experience. As all other pilgrims from the Diocese are heading home home we will be travelling to Italy for a pilgrimage through Rome and Assisi, finally returning home on August 29.

Our next meeting is July 23 at the Cathedral commencing at 11am. Stay tuned.
