Today it begins ...

Finally, the end is near. Or the beginning depending on your perspective. We have started talking seriously about the trip. Jayne is even making lists! No surprises there.

Every travel section of the newspaper that I read seems to have another article about another place to visit in France or Italy. In today's Herald there was an article about Reim. We thought we probably go back there - we did visit for a day in 2003, but after reading the article, we are definitely returning. So many museums and galleries ... I wonder how long before I make a post commenting on museum overload?

But, I'm getting ahead of myself. I still have one week to work and there is plenty to get sorted before we fly blissfully away. It is a really exciting time because our only trip together overseas was for 3 weeks in 2003 and part of that was spent at a literacy conference in London. And then when the time came to fly to Paris we were marooned in London by a wildcat strike by British Airways staff.

Anyway, it's time to go and get a Travelex card. That will make it real.

Bugger!

Looks like the macbook will be coming on the trip.

Three weeks to go

We have finally started to get a few things together before we leave. My new Tomtom arrived last week complete with maps of western Europe and Australia. Courtesy of eBay I only paid $200 and not the $450 being asked by Dick Smith and JB HiFi. This morning we purchased the Lonely Planet Guide to Italy. We think at this point we might head across to Northern Italy after we leave Paris in mid-June. Then again, we might just back track to somewhere we didn't get to spen enou time. Ah, 1st world problems.

The real reason I'm blogging is to test the iPad. When I used it on the WYD gig last year I couldn't upload photos and I had to get Cait to do it from home. I'm going to have another attempt today and hopefully with the updates since last August it will be successful. Otherwise I'll have to take the MacBook. So if there is a random photo attached to the blog it means success.

The Countdown is on

And so today we officially begin the countdown till the day we fly out for Ireland. Astute followers will note that the blog I commenced for World Youth Day 2011 has been reborn as BradnJayne's blog and will serve to chronicle our 3 months overseas. There won't be a lot of activity between now and Easter, but I will get a photo of Jayne and me to post. Maybe one of us drinking French champagne.

29 days and counting ...
