100 Round the Bends (Loire)

Loire Valley: Giseux

From the street
I hadn’t forgotten the crazy driving over here and the ridiculous speeds they drive at on tiny country rounds.  I still have nightmares about those white vans, large and small, and being tailgated by them because I wouldn’t drive at the speeds they wanted.  Cait saw her first real example this week.  We were parked and walking toward the artesan biscuit maker shop in Gizeux when a B-double came around the corner, at speed.  Had there been a car approaching the corner it would have been wiped out.  C’est la vie.

I haven’t actually mentioned our accommodation yet.  It is wonderful.  It’s a truly marvellous place to get away from the world.  If we weren’t doing the tourist bit it is an excellent spot to sit and relax.

The name of the cottage is La Croix and it is set amidst fields of wheat.  It is about 4km to the nearest village.  La Croix has been completely restored and looking at the pictures of the renovation process, the owners have done a magnificent job. There are two bedrooms upstairs and a bathroom.  Cait’s room has a view across the wheat to the corn and sunflowers in other fields.  She is sleeping in one room and using the other as a dressing room.  The stairs to Cait’s section of the house are very steep, as is the want over here.  Jayne has been banned from visiting Cait’s room.

No accidents this time.  Downstairs is the living area, kitchen, another bathroom and the master bedroom.  Off the master bedroom is a paved area where we have whiled away the afternoon and evening.
