it's only words and words are all I have (Condom)

because today was a transit day, with no photos. We had planned one stop - in Condom, but it was a disappointing experience. Condom felt sleazy - who would have thought? I'm going to stop now, you can make your own sad little condom inspired jokes with each other. One last thought, the Catholic Church is right, don't go near Condom (sorry, I couldn't resist).

Condom

Why did we decide to stop in Condom? Well, our eldest, the 26 year old serious and responsible journalist has my sense of the bizarre and he wanted a condom from Condom. How difficult could that be? There are pharmacists on every corner and every pharmacist has a condom vending machine on the exterior walls. You know, for those emergency situations during the lunch 3 hours when the pharmacy is closed.

Well, not in condom. We managed to find 2 pharmacies. Both closed. Neither had a vending machine. Nor could we find an auto teller, or in fact the town centre - it had been barricaded. The streets were populated with young people, mostly male, who were wearing red and white. It looked like the morning after a B&S. Now that's one for the Gen Y to ask their parents about. LOL.

The streets smelled of urine. There were people sleeping in cars, in the parks, there were tents in car parks. Empty alcohol bottles littered the streets. It looked like they had one great party last night. So, what the hell was going on? We didn't know and we didn't ask and we couldn't get cash, find a condom or a toilet, so we left.

Anyway, we are comfortably ensconced in a B&B in Alaigne. We are a stone's throw from Carcasonne and plan to explore the surrounding area over the next 7 days. Stay tuned for more words and pictures.
